201kg Trusses for Liverpool Project
The last week of November brought a unique truss order to our North West factory in Cheshire; a range of large trusses totaling 201kg each. Prior to the delivery of these trusses to a self-build project in Formby just outside Liverpool, Truss Designer Michelle Sweet worked with our customer to create designs which suit both the scale and features of the building.
Although various truss types have been utilised across the plot, the main design feature and area of interest for production has been the large attic trusses, weighing over 200kg and spanning 40ft long.
Due to the size of these attic trusses, the attic room measurements achieved are 7.5m x 6.9m, with a spacious 2.4m in height. The height was a key consideration for Michelle during the design, as a large flat roof area was required to keep the overall building height within planning regulations. This meant the the truss height was kept below 3.3m and the wide span was made possible through the use of internal supports.
A large plot such as this often results in some challenges to overcome in terms of design features. In this case, Michelle created a bespoke bolting pattern to allow for the girder truss hangers to sit correctly, with additional bolts added for support. In addition, the large flat top dormer to the rear elevation and wide Velux windows to the front elevation meant that truss spacing solutions were found to suit the dimensions.
Following our Key Account Manager Colleen Humbles securing this order, Michelle worked closely with the customer to confirm dimensions for accuracy and provide innovative design solutions prior to delivery.
