People Management in Manufacturing – Darren Cross promoted to Head of Production Oversight
As our factories continue to grow and capacity is increased, a new role has been created in people management to support manufacturing employees. Darren Cross joined RML in October 2018 to work in metal web joist production, and has since developed his capabilities as a Production Supervisor. As a result of the people and production management skills gained during this time, Darren will now be working as Head of Production Oversight.
Drawing on his 25 years of people management experience in a retail background, Darren will have responsibility for policies, recruitment, development, processes, and succession for all production staff across joists and trusses. Although Jamie Wilkins and Mat Harbour will still hold line management for joist and truss production respectively, Darren will regularly visit all sites to provide additional support.
After forming strong working relationships with our production staff, Darren has stepped into the role with employees already feeling comfortable around him. Previous product knowledge and experience in production will also mean that Darren can relate to any challenges and form effective solutions.
A primary responsibility for Darren will be to ensure all sites are working to the same policies and processes, as well as receiving consistent communications. As our national stature has been formed with acquired businesses, unifying operations has been a priority in recent years. Darren’s responsibility will be to develop clear policies, which are the effectively executed by all factories across the UK.
