Mark Andrews Profile

Mark Andrews, Branch Manager at RML’s West Midlands factory in Wolverhampton, has been working for the business for an amazing 44 years, having joined National Hickman straight from school in 1978.

Having earned a Grade 1 in Carpentry at school, Mark was interested in working in timber engineering and applied for a machinist role, undertaking a three year apprenticeship. His first role was working on skirting board and architrave manufacture.

He progressed through the business, making supervisor level in the 1980’s and was still with the flooring side of the business when it was acquired by Robinson Manufacturing in 2019, which gave him and other staff more job security.

As branch manager, Mark is responsible for a production team and has two team leaders to help supervise 24 staff. “Every factory has its challenges, and these can change from day to day, depending on what’s happening around us,” Mark commented. “Job satisfaction for me is quite simply getting everything done, to the right quality and on time, especially the always-challenging task of loading the trucks.”

Mark was one of the first back in the factory after the initial 6 week covid lockdown and is a hands-on manager who prefers to be out in the factory with his teams than in the office. While he loves working with people, he still enjoys jumping onto the machines in production to keep his hands-on skills up to date.

In his leisure time, Greece and the Greek islands feature heavily in Mark’s family life – they’re about to take their second trip of the year and have talked about eventually retiring there – he’s even starting to pick up a bit of the language. Meanwhile, he’s looking forward to his son’s wedding in a couple of years.
