Kickstarting Careers – Hayley Owen

In this latest instalment in the Kickstarting Careers series, we shine a spotlight on Design Administrator Hayley Owen, who joined Robinson Manufacturing (RML) through the Kickstart Scheme.

Due to being made redundant from a role in the retail sector because of the pandemic, Hayley found herself open to a new opportunity and looking for a chance to learn new skills. The Kickstart Scheme was suggested with the role at RML presenting itself as the challenge she was looking for, standing out to Hayley because of ‘the huge variety and training opportunities available above and beyond what other placements offered’.

After a successful interview Hayley began her placement and quickly established herself as one of the team. So much so, that after only 3 months in her 6-month placement Head of Design Sarah Horden upped her to full-time hours and then went on to make her role permanent.

On what being made a permanent team member means to her, Hayley had this to say:

“What started as a 6-month placement then being turned permanent so soon after joining the business boosted my confidence. I know I loved the role and my colleagues, but to have that confidence shown back to me gave me the reassurance I was on the right path. Being able to meet Rishi Sunak, receive JJI Joist design training and have the opportunity to now train other people entering the company demonstrated the businesses faith in me and continues to inspire the work that I do.”

Doubling as the RML official cake maker, Hayley is a keen baker and crafter in her spare time and has a theatrical background having gone to college after leaving school to study Musical Theatre & Dance.
