Health & Safety Update

 

Although our manufacturing processes paused briefly during the lockdown period, our Health & Safety planning and precautions definitely did not. Our Head of HSEQ Matt Davies has given an update on his work behind the scenes, ensuring that our workforce were able to make a safe return to work and put in place all the necessary measures to enforce social distancing.

With the initial nationwide struggle to obtain enough anti-bacterial cleaning equipment and PPE, Matt has ensured we are now fully prepared with a buffer stock of sanitisers and soap if we ever find ourselves in any other stock limiting situations.

We are now seeing an increasing amount of people return to the business, with more office staff due to the return in the near future. This will require the same forward planning that we have already completed and we have made adjustments to office spacing in preparation for this.

With most of our employees back at work being production staff, Matt has already witnessed impressive positive attitudes towards the new way of working: ‘At Flooring Central – where I am mostly based – I have seen how seriously the team is taking the new safety measures. They stand apart at all times, spending lunch times now separate and wait patiently to clock out so they are not all gathered in one place.’

Especially with trusses, our manufacturing processes and size of the press tables mean employees are able to keep a distance with minimum disruption to production. However, we have put precautions into place that ensure staff stay in their designated areas to limit the movement across the factory and all machines are thoroughly cleaned after every shift.

The freedom of travel around the country has now meant that Matt can make regular visits to our other factories and check compliance with our new measures. A key part of this is our daily check sheets, which must be completed by staff coming into work every day to check if they have any symptoms and if they pose as a risk to other people’s health.

Now we are prepared for the return to work, Matt has also been able to carry out the tasks he had been focusing on before the start of the pandemic such as detailed fire risk reviews and COSHH assessments. 

We continue to closely monitor government advice and look forward to introducing more employees back into the business.
