EV Charging Points at Robinson Manufacturing sites

It has been one year since the installation of the first electric vehicle charging points at our Wellingborough head office, since which time we are happy to have saved over ten and a half tons of COշ. We have also now moved into double figures of hybrid and full electric vehicles across the fleet. During the last twelve months – and with the added challenge of covid restrictions – further charge points have been installed at our Wolverhampton and Cheshire sites, as well as at sister company Pringle Farm.

Matt Davies, Head of Quality, Environment, Health and Safety commented “It is a slick process that has become second nature now – park up, plug in and get on with work when visiting various sites, happy in the knowledge that the battery will be charged and ready to go when we come to leave”.

We welcome the ten ton milestone in our continued journey to reduce the carbon footprint of the business. Other recent changes include the installation of a replacement biomass boiler at our Central factory in Wellingborough. With expanded production, the previous unit was unable to keep up. Whilst our designers always optimise timber use, converting waste to fuel for our heating system is a great way of reducing the strain on the main energy network and keeping waste transport vehicles off the road network – two birds with one stone.

Other green initiatives include a move to turnkey waste provider Suez UK who will be ensuring that no more than 5% of waste from our sites goes to landfill, further protecting the environment. As part of the rollout from our new service provider, our office staff are also embracing a move to separate dry mixed recycling with the installation of new recycling bins in the office and canteen spaces at all sites.

These changes, as well as collaborating with specialist energy consultants to explore options for further efficiency opportunities, keep us moving towards the targets of reducing our carbon footprint and protecting the environment.
