New Biomass Installation for Reducing Timber Waste

As we strive to reduce the impact our business activities have on the environment, the decision was made this year to update our biomass to stay in line with modern technology. A biomass has been an effective solution to ensure no timber off-cuts are transported from site, as waste is converted to fuel for our business systems.

Our founder Tim Robinson was quick to identify the benefit of the renewable heat incentive almost ten years ago, installing a large biomass unit at RML Central in Wellingborough. Ever since, the site has exceeded required legislation for recycling and limited harmful emissions released from our operations.

As we recognise the importance of maintaining our facilities, CEO Simon Kidney decided to replace the ailing unit with a new system better suited to the rising levels of timber off-cuts created from an increased order book. This investment is another statement of our commitment to green energy and efficiency, as we have also this year installed electric charging points across our sites.

After examining the market, specialists Myriad were selected to decommission the old unit, remodel the plant room, install new pipe runs to incorporate the increased output and over-see the maintenance contract. This new unit delivers 25% greater output than its predecessor, yet has a smaller footprint.

Site staff were then trained in the maintenance of the boiler by one of Myriad’s installation engineers after commissioning was complete. As we move into the winter months, the unit is keeping office and production staff warm as temperatures cool outside.
